The Hon’ble Chief Minister chairs a coordination meeting

Gangtok, July 02: Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang chaired a coordination meeting with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Agriculture and Horticulture at Samman Bhawan in Gangtok today.

In the meetings, the development of infrastructure, schemes related to animal husbandry and poultry, veterinary hospital, floriculture, fruits and vegetable cultivation, seed management, incentive on cash crops, compensation for natural calamities were intensively discussed. They also deliberated on effective strategies to promote and enhance fisheries to encourage and involve people in this field.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister enquired about the progress of work and benefits provided to the people living in the remote areas and was briefed about it by the concerned officials. He shared his views and suggestions towards imparting more facilities to the people and urged all the departments to consider enhancing schemes and small scale projects.
Further, he added that departments like Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Agriculture and Horticulture are people-oriented with numerous schemes to benefit the public. He urged them to work with commitment and generate awareness about all the welfare schemes in the respective departments.

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), PM Kisan Vikash Yojana, Sikkim Organic Farmers Development Board, (SOFDA), Farmer-Producer Organization, compensation, training, awareness and sensitisation drives, natural farming, upcoming projects and other schemes were also discussed during the meeting.

It was decided that the government, department and the concerned non-governmental bodies will actively work to transform the agricultural sector and provide facilities to the general public at the rural level. Highlighting the subject of improvement in milk production in the state through incentives, the Chief Minister advised on employing similar incentives to various other cash crops, vegetable and horticulture products, animal husbandry, fisheries etc.

Hon’ble Minister Shri Lok Nath Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary cum APC, Secretary and other officials were present in the meeting.
