Virtual Meeting discusses South Monsoon Preparedness


Namchi, 27th May (IPR): DC (South) Mr. M. Bharani Kumar held a virtual monsoon preparedness meeting, today. This meeting was joined by SSP (South) Mr. Thakur Thapa, ADC (South) Mr. Satyan Kr Pradhan, CMO (South) Dr. D.C. Sharma, SDM (HQ) Mr. Chiran Rizal , General Manager (NHIDCL) Mr. A. K. Singh and Officials from Line Departments of South District Administration Centre.

DC informed the aim of the meeting is to review the arrangements being made and the precautionary measures being taken to handle the situation which may arise due to the monsoon season in the district. He underlined the importance of smooth communication between the line departments so as to avert unfavourable circumstances. He also issued clear directives to PWD, Roads & Bridges, Forest & Environment and many more departments to undertake clearance work at the earliest and underlined that necessary permission needs to be taken in case of excavation work especially during this ongoing monsoon season. He further elaborated about the required intervention needed in adarsh gaon area and exhorted BDO Temi to monitor the vulnerable areas and equip the standby officials in case of emergencies.

Similarly, he urged the concerned department to clear drainage and prevent inundations into habitations. Power Department has been asked to organise teams on standby for power supply related issues during heavy rains. The Roads and Bridges Department has been asked to update the road status everyday for convinence of the public.

Further, the Forest and Environment Department staff were directed to ascertain trees vulnerable to storms and rains and clear them at the earliest so as to tide through any potential disaster. It was also informed by the official’s from Namchi Municipal Council and Naya-Bazar Jorethang Nagar Panchayat that they have started to clean the town and unclog
drains in most of the wards for better drainage during the rainy season.

The meeting also saw a brief discussion with the Officials about the COVID-19 status in the district, the isolation centres, sanitization procedures and disposing of bio – medical waste as per the Standard Operating Procedures. Various aspects such as vaccination process, distribution of Covid Care Kit, data management and other facilities were also deliberated. It was also emphasized by DC and Health Department to clear the roads in this season as it is very important especially for the ambulances transporting COVID-19 positive patients to reach the nearest health care centre.
