Gangtok, May 4: Shri Nell Bahadur Chettri from Burtuk ward was unanimously elected as the Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation during the election-cum-swearing-in-ceremony of 18 newly elected Councillors held at the Conference Hall of Gangtok Municipal Corporation, today.
Similarly, Smt Tshering Palden Bhutia from Development Area ward was elected as the Deputy Mayor.
The District Magistrate, East-cum-Presiding Officer of the swearing-in-ceremony, Shri Ragul K. administered the oath of office to the 18 newly elected Councillors in the presence of Secretary UDD Ms. Sarala Rai, Additional District Collector (HQ) Shri Hemant Rai, Commissioner GMC Shri Hem Kumar Chettri and the officials of GMC. A total of 17 Councillors were present during the programme, wherein one Councillor Ms Kala Rai had joined virtually.
Earlier, two minute silence was also observed on the demise of Councillor of Arithang II ward Shri Raju Tamang.
It was also informed that the election for the post of five Executive Members of GMC will take place in the second meeting of GMC.
Similarly, the Swearing-in-ceremony of the 10 Councillors of Singtam Nagar Panchayat and Rangpo Nagar Panchayat were also conducted at the Community Hall, Singtam. ADC East cum AMERO for Singtam and Rangpo Nagar Panchayat Shri Tushar G.Nikhare administered the oath of affirmation to the newly elected Councillors of Singtam Nagar Panchayat and Rangpo Nagar Panchayat, respectively.
Shri Suresh Kr.Tamang from Chisopani ward was unanimously elected as the Municipal President and Smt.Bindhya Subba from Mandir Line ward as Municipal Vice President of Singtam Nagar Panchayat. Likewise, Shri Sanjeev Kumar Khati from Mandi Bazar ward was elected as the Municipal President and Smt. Radha Pradhan from Mining ward as the Municipal Vice President of Rangpo Nagar Panchayat, respectively. The elections were conducted as per reservation of seats in Singtam and Rangpo Nagar Panchayat duly notified vide notification of UDD.
