The Culture Department organizes a programme as a part of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav

Gangtok, April 13: As a part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’, the Culture Department, Government of Sikkim, organized a programme comprised of a patriotic song, dances, poetry and prose recitation by the artists and librarians of the Department, at Manan Hall, Gangtok, today. Similarly, poetry recitation was also held in all the Community Centre District Libraries in the State.
The programme was attended by Hon’ble Advisor Culture Department, Smt. Bhim Kumari Sharma, Chairman, Sikkim Culture, Heritage and Communal Harmony Board Shri Sonam Sherpa along with Secretary Culture, Smt. Sherap Shenga, officers and staff of the Department. The programme was also attended by representatives of some of the departments housed at Manan Bhawan.
Our Nation is just a few months away from celebrating the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence. To commemorate the monumental occasion, the Central Government had proposed various programmes and activities exactly 75 weeks, prior to the Independence Day celebration, 2022.
Similarly, to mark the occasion, the Culture Department has been organizing a series of programmes from 12th March 2021 onwards. A Skit on Dandi March was held on 18th March, Quiz Competition in both online and offline mode by library section in coordination with NIC, on freedom movement was held on 23rd March. A cultural troupe comprising of 23 artists also participated in the Salt Sathyagrah- Dandi March event held recently at Gujarat w.e.f.2nd to 5th April 2021. Other programmes in the pipeline include Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, poetry recitation on commemorating the first war of Independence 1857 on 10th May 2021, painting competition on 23rd June followed by storytelling session on 21st July etc.
