
Gangtok, 12th March (IPR): Hon’ble Advisor IPR Department Shri. Birendra Tamling inaugurated a photo exhibition at Titanic Park in Gangtok, today, organized by the Information and Public Relations Department in coordination with Press Information Bureau (PIB), Sikkim.
The photo exhibition is a part of a series of event ‘Azadi ka amrut mahotsav ‘ organized by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Independence.
The Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav will have a series of events to mark 75 years of India’s Independence ‘from March 12, 2021 to August 15, 2022.
The Chief Guest for the inaugural event was accompanied by IPR Secretary, Smt Siphora G. Targain; Director, IPR, Smt Benu Gurung, Director, PIB Sikkim, Shri Ajay Mahima, Joint Director, IPR, Shri Bishal Khawas, Deputy Director, IPR, Shri Sonam Choppel Bhutia, Assistant Director, IPR, Shri Keshap Chettri, along with PIB and IPR officials.
After inaugurating the Photo Exhibition, he inspected the photos being displayed and appreciated the effort put in by the department in line with the nation-wide celebrations.
In his brief address, IPR Advisor, Shri Tamling, spoke about the significance of choosing 12 March for the Mahotsav and added that on this day in 1930, Mahatma Gandhi took out the famous Dandi march to break the law imposing tax on salt.
He extended gratitude to the organizers for hosting the photo exhibition that inspires the younger generation to inculcate a spirit of patriotism and national integration amongst them.
Director, PIB Sikkim, Shri Ajay Mahima, in his address, informed that the photo exhibition will be shifted to the conference hall of Soochna Bhawan, IPR Department at Tadong, Metro for the next three days and urged all, especially the youth and students, to visit the exhibition to gain more information on the Indian freedom fighters who dedicated their lives for the freedom of the nation.
