Withdrawal of nomination for Municipal Election 2021 West Sikkim

Gyalshing, 11th March (IPR): Withdrawal of nomination for Municipal Election 2021 under Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat took place at the Office of the Municipal Returning Officer, West, today.
Under Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat, a total of two candidates withdrew their nomination at the office of MRO in presence of Election Observer, Mr. M.T Sherpa.
Following are the details of candidates who had withdrawn their candidature under Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat.
1. Shri. Indra Bahadur Karki from 05-New Gyalshing ward.
2. Smt. Menuka Chhetri from 04-Central Gyalshing ward.
Following the withdrawal of candidatures, the final lists of candidates under Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat are as follows:
01. Kyongsa (ST)- 1 candidate
02. Byadong (SC)- 3 candidates
03. Nayabazar ST(W)- 3 candidates
04. Central Gyalshing UR (W)- 4 candidates
05. New Gyalshing OBC(S)- 2 candidates
Meanwhile, symbols were allotted to all the twelve candidates by the Municipal Returning Officer, (MRO, West) Mr. Karma R.Bonpo and Assistant Returning Officer, (ARO, West) Mr. Agawane Rohan Ramesh in the benign presence of Election Observer for West, Mr. M.T. Sherpa. One of the candidates from the 01-Kyongsa ward stands uncontested and a total number of twelve candidates will contest the poll on the 31st of March 2021.
Election Observer briefed about the Model Code of Conduct(MCC) to the present candidates and mentioned that MCC needs to be followed strictly by all the candidates, polling agents and election agents. He added, the election process will be conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner and urged all the candidates to cooperate in the election proceedings peacefully. He also highlighted the Do’s and Don’ts of MCC in brief and for any confusion and queries, he circulated his phone number and email ID.
Municipal Returning Officer suggested candidates not modify the given symbols which may create confusion among the voters while casting their votes. He also informed that the ballot paper will be set in the same sequence according to Form- 23. Further, he also informed about the miking permission which needs to be taken from SP, West. He suggested not to entertain any activities that lead to MCC violation. He further suggested the candidates appoint election agents for official works, so, candidates could do their campaigning freely. He assured that polling will be done in a transparent manner and stated that EVM (Electronic Voting Machines) will be arranged in front of candidates and election agents. He further stated that there should not be any kind of interference in polling stations and total security will be there.
Later the copies of the Model Code of Conduct and Form-24 were also distributed to all the candidates.
