Gangtok, March 9th (IPR): A day-long first session of training for Polling Officers II and III (PO 2 & PO-3) of East District for the upcoming Municipal Election-2021 was held at the conference hall of Zilla Bhawan, East today.
Sub Divisional Magistrate HQ-II, Dr. Anand Sharma was the Resource Person of the training. He briefed the officials on the various roles and responsibilities to conduct the upcoming Municipal Election.
Additional District Magistrate and also the Assistant Municipal Returning Officer East, Shri Tushar Nikhare presided over the training.
During the training, the trainees were apprised about the tasks to be diligently carried out prior to the polling day, on the day of polling and after the polling day. The trainees were informed about the various do’s and don’t regarding the polling process in line with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI). The significance of the conduct of the mock poll before commencing the actual poll was also emphasized and all the necessary procedures pertaining to the polling process were demonstrated.
The functioning of the Electronic Voting Machine (Control and Ballot Unit) was also explained and a hands-on training session was conducted to familiarize the trainees with EVM Control and Ballot Unit.
It is to be mentioned that the role of the Polling Officer-II is to apply indelible ink, to be in charge of the voting registers, and to generate voter slips. The role of the Polling Officer-III is to collect voter slips and to be in charge of the control unit.
The training program had the presence of about 130 trainees.
