International Women’s Day celebration at Mangan

Mangan, 08 March (IPR): International Women’s Day 2021 was celebrated in DAC Conference Hall, Mangan today on the theme “ Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal Future in a Covid- 19 world”. The event was organized by One Stop Centre- Mangan under the Social Justice and Welfare Department. The theme celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVI 19 pandemic. It is also aligned with the priority theme of the 65th session of the Commission on the status of women, “Women’s full and effective participation and decision making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.”; and the flagship generation equality campaign, which calls for women’s right to decision making in all areas of life, equal pay, equal sharing of unpaid care and domestic work, an end all forms of violence against women and girls, and healthcare services that respond to their needs. Women stand at the frontline of the COVID 19 crisis, as healthcare workers, caregivers, innovators, community organizers and as some of the most exemplary and effective national leaders in combating the pandemic.
The chief guest for the event was ADM(N) Shri Sonam Lepcha, SP(N) Smt. Ongmu Bhutia, CWC Chairperson Smt Mingma Doma Bhutia, Panchayat, Officers from SJ&W Department, members from NGOs, SHG and Police Personnel also attended the event.
A PPT was presented by the Centre Administrator OSC Miss Sonam.P. Bhutia on One Stop Centre, Assistance to women in lodging FIR/NCR/DIR, Psycho-Social support/ Counseling, Legal Aid and Counselling, Medical Assistance and Shelter.
Smt. Wendy Mair Lepcha DCPO North provided a presentation and details on the following topics.
1. Juvenile Justice care and protection of children act 2000, now 2015
2. Offences against children (JJ Act 2015)
3. District child protection unit
4. Child welfare committee
5. Care, support and Rehabilitation services from ICPS including non-institutional services and institutional services
6. The child labour( Prohibition and Regulation) amendment act, 2016
7. Right to Education act, 2009
8. Prohibition of child marriage act, 2006
9. POCSO Amendment Act, 2019
CWC Chairperson Smt Mingma Doma Bhutia shared her experience on Domestic Violence cases and encouraged women to speak and stand against all violence against them.
