
Namchi, 8th March (IPR): A day-long programme was held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra South Sikkim on the occasion of International Women’s Day to acknowledge the contribution of women in agriculture and horticulture with the ICAR theme of the programme as “ Women leadership in agriculture: Entrepreneurship, Equity and Empowerment”.
The first part commenced with a webcast of the virtual programme at ICAR Headquarters followed by online felicitation of women farmer Smt. Mala Sherpa of Rong Bul South Sikkim by ICAR-National Centre for Integrated Pest Management (NCIPM) and also by KVK South Sikkim, New Delhi. Smt. Mala Sherpa a very progressive women farmer was felicitated for setting up a model Integrated Organic Farming System on her farm and being a source of motivation for other women farmers.
During the programme, other farm women were also felicitated for their contribution to agriculture and horticulture. The Chief Guest of the programme Ms. Saroja Tamang HDO Namthang Farm spoke on the importance of women in agriculture and allied sectors. Others present in the programme were Shri. I.P. Shivakoti Senior Scientist and Head KVK South Sikkim, Smt. Chandrakala Sharma HI Namthang Farm, officials of KVK and women farmers.
