Namchi, 6th March (IPR): One Stop Centre(South)under Social Justice and Welfare Department in collaboration with 181-WHLs, Mahila Shakti Kendra(S) and Lungchok- Kamerey GPU celebrated Pre International Women’s Day today.
Lungchok-Kamerey GPU under Sumbuk BAC South Sikkim has established a Women Empowerment Centre and is the first Women Empowerment Village Administrative Centre in the State which was inaugurated on 11th February 2021.
The programme was graced by Smt. Jamuna Rai, Zilla Panchayat as the Chief Guest and Panchayat President, Lungchok-Kamerey GPU Shri.Deo Raj Rai as a guest of honour.
The programme had participants from SHGs, Panchayats, AWW, VAC staffs, ASHA workers and students of Sumbuk Sr. Sec School.
Ms.Munna Chettri,Dist.Coordinator, Mahila Shakti Kendra briefed about the Women Empowerment Schemes such as Beti Bachao Beti Padao Scheme, Ujjawala, Swadhar Greh and about Mahila Shakti Kendra.
Ms.Namina Lakhey, Helpline Manager spoke on the services provided by 181-Women Helpline.
Ms.Sangita Gurung, Centre Administrator(S) highlighted on role and functions of One Stop Centre. She briefed about the services that aggrieved women can opt for through the One-Stop Centre. She shed light upon the sexual harassment at Workplace Act 2013 and the interim relief and highlighted on roles of Third Party Facilitators.
Resource Person Advocate Pradeep Rai, OSC(E) spoke on various forms of violence against women and children and the different special laws relating to women and children. He highlighted the various provision of the protection of women from the Domestic Violence Act 2005, which provides different forms of remedies to the aggrieved person like Protection Order, Residential Order, Maintenance, Custody and Compensation. He spoke on women trafficking issues, POCSO and the rise in the number of missing children cases. He talked about cybercrime and cyberstalking and how an innocent can fall prey to the perpetrator’s evil plan. Further, he informed about the free legal aid available to women and children which shall be given from the office of the State Legal Services Authority.
Madam Jamuna Rai, Zilla Panchayat and Sir Deo Raj Rai, Panchayat President appreciated the programme and addressed the gathering to be more vigilant to make the entire GPU violence-free. Shri Deo Raj Rai focused on making a new Internal Complaint Committee for the safety of women in the workplace and also make a group of outreach worker for the emergency help of the women in need.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Ms.Sangita Gurung Centre Administrator, One Stop Centre (South).
