National Handloom Expo 2020-21 under NERTPS at Namchi

Namchi, 2nd March (IPR): The Sikkim Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, Zero Point, Gangtok, a Government undertaking under Directorates of Handicrafts and Handloom had organized one National Handloom Expo 2020-21 under NER Textile Promotional Scheme (NERTPS) at Central Park, Namchi. The expo which commenced today will be held till 14th March and had Hon’ble Chairman Commerce and Industries Department Shri. M.B. Chettri (Vyasananda Guruji) was the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Zilla Adhyakshya (South) Smt. Tshering Dem Bhutia, Deputy Director (D.H.H) Smt. Pramila Rai, Deputy Director (Marketing) Shri. Tshering Dorjee, Deputy Director (DHH) Shri. B.B. Gurung, Staff and trainees of D.H.H. Namchi district and local gentry.
This Exhibition cum Sale has a total of 40 stalls and 60 participants from states such as Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Ladhak, Jammu and Kashmir and many more. This expo also has local weavers, Self Help Groups, Cooperative Societies from the various parts of the state.
The Chief Guest upon his arrival also visited the stalls and interacted with the vendors.
The National Handloom Expo is a PAN India Programme that provides a platform for weavers, sellers and buyers to converge and create awareness about the handloom sector as an employment and income-generating industry. Further, from this expo, the government’s vision and policy of creating a sustainable cottage industry will also be proactively highlighted so that every home and village can showcase their products and generate income.
