Namchi, 21st February (IPR): A two day long ‘State Level Sports Speed and Lead Climbing Competition 2021’ commenced at Indian Himalayan Centre For Adventure and Eco-Tourism (IHCAE) Chemchey, today.
While speaking about the aim of this Speed and Lead Climbing competition Deputy Director (IHCAE) Shri. Kazi Sherpa said this kind of event is being organized to promote the sports and train the challengers so that they can represent Sikkim at a national level platform. He also added that this sports requires endurance, strength especially at the fingers and a specific technique. He also informed that the technical velayrs involved in the competition are from IHCAE, Chemchey.
This competition has been divided into three categories namely Sub-Junior which falls under 10-13 years, Junior 14-16 years and Open 17 years and above and is extended for both boys and girls.
In, this free of cost competition the contestants have to climb 48 feet tall Sports Climbing Wall.
A total of 109 participants took part in the qualifying rounds held today. The competitors are from places namely Ravangla, Chemchey, Damthang, Geyzing, Gangtok, Namchi, Tokal-Bermiok and Assangthang. Pallav Das, Bhaskar Das and Shanti Rai are judges of this competition, they have been certified by Indian Mountaineering Foundation. Similarly, National Route Sketcher Sammi Hang Subba has identified the route.
