Namchi, 7th February (IPR): Eat Right Challenge, Namchi themed ‘Inspiring Trust, Assuring Safe and Nutritious Food’ was inaugurated by Hon’ble South Zilla Adhyaksha Smt. Tshering Dem Bhutia at Central Park, today. This challenge is an initiative of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSA) and had the presence of DC (South) Shri. M. Bharani Kumar, SDM (Namchi) Shri. Agawane Rohan, Director Food Safety and Standard Cell Dr. Tekendra Rai, DMS Dr. Urgen Sherpa, officials and other stakeholders.
Addressing, the gathering Hon’ble South Zilla Adhyaksha Smt. Tshering Dem Bhutia spoke about the importance of this challenge and updated that a balanced meal needs to be consumed by the people. She also updated that there has been an increase in people eating food that is unhealthy and added that this kind of program can generate awareness to eat a wholesome meal filled with complete nutrients and other healthy dietary needs. She also asserted that eating the right kind of food is extremely imperative as the main purpose of food is to strengthen our body, boost our immunity and keep various types of sickness at bay.
DC cum Chairman Eat Right Challenge Shri. M. Bharani Kumar emphasized this challenge and urged one and all to eat safe and clean food. He said that since Sikkim is also a tourist destination he exhorted that hotels and other similar kinds of shops require to serve food that is sustainable and includes the dietary supplement
Joint Director, Shri. Niraj Thapa Food Safety and Standard Cell briefed about the challenge where he informed that this challenge has been initiated all over the country including Sikkim. This challenge he said has been organized by FSSAI in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India FSSA Cell and Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim. He added that as a part of this challenge, a camp has been set up wherein various important advice will be disseminated to the public and also said that the ‘Food Safety on Wheels’ vehicle has also been put up. Moreover, he spoke about the various guidelines shaped by the Government of India which shall regulate and identify how hygienic a place is for the masses to go out and consume food.
Resource Persons Director Food Safety and Standard Cell Dr. Tekendra Rai, DMS Dr. Urgen Sherpa also shared their valuable suggestions, aims and objectives regarding this program. They also highlighted registration, licensing for shops with the cells.
