Gyalshing, 15th January 2021 (IPR): The Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Shri Lok Nath Sharma inaugurated a Training programme on Bamboo Handicraft for Farmers/Artisans at Hee Martam Block Administrative Centre, today.
Twenty days long Training programme is being organised by the Department of Horticulture, under National Bamboo Mission. A total of twenty trainees have been attending the training programme. Two Master Trainers from the locality will impart training as a resource person for Bamboo Crafting.
Addressing the farmers and trainees, Minister Sharma articulated on the importance of Bamboo crafting, its versatility and advantages. He mentioned that the farmers need to be skilled and capable enough to generate a source of sustainable livelihood and bamboo sector would be an opportunity to make them self reliant, economically.
Highlighting the increasing demand and scope of Bamboo crafting, he motivated trainees to be more dedicated and determined to practice and prepare attractive bamboo crafts. He also assured to provide a further training programme for best performing trainees to make them the finest entrepreneurs.
He stressed on the objective of the state government to provide income generating platform with a prime motivate to empower farmers with new skills.
Minister Sharma also shared a vision of the state government to develop a Corridor for Bamboo Industry, viewing huge potential of Bamboo resources in the West District.
Block Development Officer, Hee Martam, Smt. Prativa Tamang also encouraged the gathering to take optimum benefits of the training programme. Dr Tika Nepal, Bamboo Consultant, Horticulture Department also addressed the inaugural function.
The programme also had the presence of Hon’ble Advisor Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Shri Durga Prasad Pradhan, Additional Director (Accounts) Shri JB Karki, Additional Director Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services/ West Dr Narad Cintury, Joint Director Agriculture Shri TN Bhutia, Joint Director Horticulture Shri Karma Sherpa, Officials, Panchayats and others.
