Gangtok, January 10 (IPR): The Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. Prem Singh Tamang flagged off the 16 Traffic Police Motorcycles dedicated to enforcing better traffic management in the State, in a programme organised by the Sikkim Police at MG Marg, Gangtok, today.
During the programme, the Chief Minister also launched the Mission Jyoti Mobile App designed and created by the Sikkim Police (Crime Branch). The programme was also attended by the Hon’ble Minister for UDD Shri. Arun Upreti, Hon’ble Minister Transport Department Shri. Sanjeet Kharel, MLA Gangtok Shri. Y. T. Lepcha, DGP Shri. A. Shanker Rao, Secretary UDD Ms. Sarala Rai, Special DGP Law and Order Shri. Akshay Sachdeva along with HODs and Officers from Police Department.
DIG Range Shri. Prawin Gurung in his welcome speech mentioned the importance of proper traffic management which requires the cooperation of all citizens. He also enlightened the gathering on the importance of the 5 E’s for better traffic management which included Engineering, Enforcement, Education, Encouragement and Evaluation and highlighted the importance of the combined efforts of the citizens, drivers (Gurujis) and the Police to enable Sikkim to be free from any hindrances in the traffic. He also informed about the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s concern over the traffic issue in the State and also added that probable solutions for the constant jams have paved the way for the Traffic Police to function with more zeal and enthuse. He also extended gratitude to the Chief Minister for his valuable contributions towards the Sikkim Police efforts in keeping the State of Sikkim safe for all.
DIG Range also informed that out of the 16 Traffic Motorcycles, 12 would be for East Sikkim, 2 for South Sikkim, 1 for West Sikkim and 1 for North Sikkim.
SP CID Shri. Tenzing Loden Lepcha, in his brief address, informed about the Mobile application which was launched in the programme. The ‘Mission Jyoti App’ is an initiative of Sikkim Police to counter drug abuse, child sexual abuse and suicide. He also informed that the app contains the details of these crimes and how it can be prevented. Important numbers like child helpline, suicide helpline, police control room etc. are also included in the app which can be accessed by the public through which the complaints can be sent via the app to the Police Department. Further, the contact details of all SPs, ASPs, SDPOs and SHOs are also included in the app. He informed that the application would be available from 12th January 2021 on Google Play and the iOS version will also be made available soon.
Similarly, the ‘Mission SAFAI’ (Sikkim Against Fraud Action Initiative) was also explained by the SP CID where the awareness against cyber frauds was addressed. The initiative was developed in order to enlighten and aware the people of Sikkim against possible cyber frauds through videos and messages and how to stop it from happening to anyone.
In the programme, Traffic Helpline number 8900295999 was also unveiled which would be working 24×7 where citizens can call, send SMS and pictures via Whatsapp of possible traffic violations and actions would be taken promptly.
