Gyalshing, 29th December(IPR): The Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang graced the closing ceremony of 1st Khanchendzonga Adventure meet and the 1st National paragliding Accuracy Olympic trial championship as the Chief Guest held at Pelling, today organized by Pelling Tourism Development Association (PTDA). The programme was also attended by Deputy Speaker (SLA), Shri Sangay Lepcha, Hon’ble Cabinet Ministers, Hon’ble Member of Parliament(Lok Sabha), Shri Indra Hang Subba, Hon’ble MLA’s , Advisors, Chairpersons, DC(West) Shri Karma R.Bonpo, SP(West) Shri Tashi W. Bhutia,(President, PTDA), Officials and other dignitaries.
On the occasion, Hon’ble Chief Minister paid tribute to Lt. Tshering Wangdi Bhutia and Lt. Topzor Bhutia former Advisors of PTDA by offering khadas and observing two minutes silence as a mark of respect.
The event also witnessed Miss Rinzing Doma Bhutia,the first woman paragliding pilot of Sikkim and first woman Tandem paraglider of India who was felicitated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest expressed his gratitude towards the committee for organising such a national level event in West District. He emphasised on enhancing tourism in Pelling and encouraged to host such events in upcoming days. He also assured to provide maximum support from the State Government to boost local entrepreneurs and tourism in West District. He added that Pelling forms the base from where trekkers and other peripatetic adventurers undertake the strenuous and arduous treks in West Sikkim.
Further, he said paragliding has gradually become a popular Adventure Sport in Sikkim, which is generating employment and revenue as well. The State government will support and promote adventure tourism in the state which has emerged on the nation’s paragliding map, he added. He also urged locals to take benefit out of it. The Chief Minister also briefed about all the development works within West District that would help to uplift the rural public of West Sikkim.
The event also saw the felicitation to Alisha C.Khonjuju from Arunachal Pradesh as Youngest Paragliding Pilot, Bhim Hang Subba from Sikkim as Most Emerging Paragliding Pilot, Col. Manoj Majumdar (Army) as Veteran Senior Most Pilot, Women of the Championship Rinzing Doma Bhutia from Sikkim and Men of the Championship Hari Chandra Gurung from Sikkim.
The function also witnessed the friendly football match played between Veteran Gyalshing vs Chief Minister eleven (11) where latter emerged victorious with the scoreline of 3:0.
Earlier, Hon’ble Chief Minister also inaugurated a new Digital X-ray machine at District hospital, Gyalshing.
