
Gangtok, December 22(IPR): Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang flagged off an international winter expedition to Ama Dablam in Eastern Nepal at Mintokgang today. Ms. Shanti Rai, an Instructor at Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Ecotourism(IHCAE), Chemchey, South Sikkim, who is also a reputed mountaineer from Sikkim is the lone mountaineer representing the State as well as the Country for the expedition.
Hon’ble Chief Minister in his brief address extended his best wishes to her and also assured to provide all the necessary support for the expedition.
A month long winter expedition will begin from 25th of December to Ama Dablam, which is situated at 6812 m and is one of the challenging peaks of Eastern Nepal. The mountaineers from various countries like Mexico, Turkey, Oman and Egypt are also expected to participate.
Earlier, Shri Kazi Sherpa, Deputy Director, IHCAE, Chemchey also briefed about the expedition.
The programme was also attended by the spouse of Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt Krishna Rai, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Department Shri. B. S. Panth along with the officials of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department.
