Gyalshing, Dec19: (IPR) The most popular cultural festival of Lepcha community, Namsoong was celebrated with much zeal and traditional honour at Manikyong, Bermiok, West Sikkim, today. The Hon’ble Minister-cum-Area MLA of Gyalshing Bermiok constituency, Shri Lok Nath Sharma graced the occasion as the Chief Guest in the special presence of the Hon’ble Advisor Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Shri Durga Prasad Pradhan. The Namsoong festival was organised by Bermiok Rongong Sezum.
Minister Sharma, in his address, expressed his happiness on being part of the programme and further articulated on the affirmative significance of communal harmony, spirituality, cultural and social aspects as an impact of celebrating the traditional festival of Namsoong. He also highlighted on the various developmental works carried out in Gyalshing Bermiok constituency within a short span of time and further assured to work relentlessly to make people economically upgraded and self reliant. He also extended his best wishes and greetings of the festive season and New Year 2021.
The Hon’ble Minister, Shri Loknath Sharma was also presented souvenir and costumes of Lepcha community.
Earlier, member of the Organizing Committee, Shri Phurzang Lepcha underlined objectives and significance of Namsoong festival. The programme also saw cultural performances, sports activities and yoga demonstrations.
Minister Sharma also handed over souvenir and certificates to the participants.
