Gyalshing, December 19(IPR): Three days long Chasok Tongnam festival which started from 17th December celebrated at Yangthong, Soreng West Sikkim, today. To mark the closing of the said event, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) graced the event as a Chief Guest accompanied by Shri Indra Hang Subba Hon’ble MP, Lok Sabha, Shri M.N.Sherpa Hon’ble Minister Power & Energy, Shri Bhim Hang Subba Hon’ble Minister PHE, Hon’ble MLA’s from different Constituencies, Advisors, Chairmen/Chairpersons, HOD’s from different Departments, members of different Limboo Associations and dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister greeted the people and praised the organising committee for holding the festival and bringing together various communities. The festivals celebrated in Sikkim should stand for community inclusiveness, he added.
He further highlighted the importance of the Chasok Tongnam festival. On the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that soon Soreng and Pakyong will be officially announced the new two districts of Sikkim and added Primary Health Centre Soreng would be upgraded into Community Health Centre. He said that the State Government is committed to improving the health infrastructure. It has decided to provide dialysis facilities in all districts of the State.
Further, he said the Sikkim Government has undertaken various steps to check the spread of COVID-19. He also stressed the need for tapping the immense tourism potential of the Soreng Chakung Constituency. Road construction projects will be launched to connect various tourists spot and the surrounding markets of Soreng. The Chief Minister also briefed about the agreement between the State Government and the Sikkim Manipal University and mentioned that the government has acquired fifty seat quota for free of cost and thirty seats for paid quota so that yearly eighty Sikkimese students could pursue MBBS. He also highlighted the One Rank One Pension that recently updated in government norms.
HCM also stated that soon the government would make a provision to mark a holiday on a day of Chasok Tongnam.
The Celebration Committee also felicitated the Chief Minister on the occasion.
MLA, Shri Aditya Golay in his brief address thanked the Chief Minister for his great presence and appreciated the support towards the community and also ensured the gathering for sustainable development for the betterment of the people from Soreng-Chakung Constituency.
The festival was marked by cultural shows, rural dance and religious performances by phedangbas and jhakris.
