Gyalshing, 4th December (IPR): A meeting on District Task Force for the introduction of Covid-19 vaccine was chaired by District Collector West, Shri Karma R. Bonpo at the Conference Hall of Zilla Panchayat Bhawan, Kyongsa, West Sikkim, today.
The meeting also had the presence of CMO/ West Dr. Anusha Lama, DSO/West Dr. Leezum Lepcha, DRCHO/West Dr. Patrika Rai along with Officials, members from different organizations and staff from the health department.
Addressing the august gathering, District Collector West, Shri Karma R. Bonpo informed that with the availability of Covid-19 Vaccine, the first priority will be given to healthcare warriors including municipal workers preferably the safai karmacharis. He added that the vulnerable age group suffering from chronic diseases will be in the second phase and asked all concerned BDO’s to actively involved in data collection for the required task. He asked for the formation of a Block Level Task Force as well. He also asked to submit infrastructure, power back up and equipment requirements to PHCs and sub-centers at the earliest and mentioned that strengthening healthcare infrastructure will be needed. He stressed social counseling, dissemination of correct information to the general public on the Covid-19 vaccine. He also mentioned preparedness activities once the vaccine will be available.
DC West also highlighted that the maximum chances of getting infected is from social gatherings and appealed to the general public to avoid it as much as possible. He mentioned that the state government has been working tirelessly to control the situation. He thanked the health warriors for strongly facing the deadly virus and keeping us safe till now and further motivated the medical team for their divine task.
It must be mentioned here that the District Task Force shall be responsible for the overall management of the entire process of introduction of Covid-19 Vaccine in the district.
CMO (West)highlighted the importance of the vaccine and how it works. She also briefed about the Covishield Vaccine which may be available this year as expected. She later added that the vaccination process will be done in a phase-wise manner.
DSO (West) also briefed about the updation of the Covid-19 situation in West District. Later the vote of thanks was proposed by DRCHO West, Dr Patrika Rai.
