Mangan, 11th Oct IPR: Today a week long programme on International Day of the Girl Child 2020 was concluded and celebrated in DAC election conference hall, Mangan.
The programme was attended by the chairman (Sikkim Welfare Commission) Shri Nim Tshering Lepcha as the chief guest. He was accompanied by the chairperson Child Protection Committee Smt Mingma Doma Bhutia, ADC/ADM North Shri Sonam Lepcha, Deputy Director (Education Department) Shri Sajan V Sebastian, AO( Land Revenue) Shri D.T. Bhutia, DCPO(N) Smt Wendy M Lepcha, WWO(N) Smt Tshering kee Lama, CDPO Mangan Smt L.D Denjongpa and Dealing official Shri W.N Bhutia.
The programme was organised by the District Task Force, Mangan, North Sikkim under the banner of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. The programme was conducted to encourage the scheme ” Beti Bachao Beti Padhao”. The theme for today’s programme was ” My voice, Our equal Future “. The International Day of the girl child is observed internationally.
UNICEF launches an annual campaign ” My voice, Our equal Future ” as the theme suggest, it gives the opportunity to reimagine a better world inspired by adolescent girls, girls from all walks of life who are boldly demanding action against discrimination, violence and poor learning opportunities.
The programme was conducted from the first week of this month in all block-level of North Sikkim namely (Chungthang tribal project, Mangan tribal project and Dzongu tribal project). All these programmes were conducted by the CDPOs from their respective areas under the guidance of ADM (North).
The main motive of this programme is to create awareness regarding gender inequality and discrimination. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the organising committee has to conduct a webinar(online platform) in which big dignitaries like Miss Aparajita Rai (IPS) DCP special task force Kolkata Police also participated in the webinar.
Today’s programme also includes a powerpoint project presented by Smt Wendy M Lepcha on a topic like Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act,2000 (now 2015), Offences against children (JJ Act, 2015), District child protection unit, Child welfare committee, care, support and Rehabilitation services from ICPS and Other child-related legislation. Smt Tshering kee Lama also presented a powerpoint project on Mahila Shakti Kendra Scheme, Convergent of services and schemes and Sustainable Menstruation.
The organising committee also honoured 3 girls Child with offering khadas and certificate of appreciation for achieving their goals in their respective field and they are as follows:
1. MISS PEMKIT LEPCHA
Prime Minister of National inclusive children’s parliament cum Minister of Infrastructure and development.
She is also the Prime Minister of village level children’s parliament and had participated in NICP, New Delhi in January 2020 and was unanimously elected by all the PMs of village level children’s parliament from all over the country.
2. MISS SOHITYA KALA LIMBOO
She had secured 95.6% in class XII CBSE board examinations in humanities,2020 and she is also the second topper. She had completed her schooling from Mangshilla Sr Sec School.
3. MISS DIKI CHODEN BHUTIA
She is a student of Chief Minister Meritorious Scholarship and she had completed her schooling from SCINDIA KANYA VIDYALAYA, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. She had secured 95.4% in humanities 2020. She was also the head girl of the school. She is selected for International student house scholarship,
London. She is from Ranthang, North Sikkim.
