Namthang, 30th September (IPR): Hon’ble Minister for Transport, Buildings and Housing Departments Cum Area-MLA Shri. Sanjeet Kharel inaugurated the two-day long Krishi Mela cum Technology Week which commenced at Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Namthang, today.
The Krishi Mela was organised by KVK, Namthang in convergence with Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) under the Agriculture and Horticulture Department.
The program was also graced by Joint Director Agriculture Shri. Pratap Subba, Joint Director Horticulture Shri. Dikendra Bhujel, BDO Namthang Shri. Ram Tamang, Senior Scientist KVK, Namthang Shri. I.P Shivakoti,
KVK(Subject Matter Specialist) Dr. Chewang Norbu Bhutia along with ADOs and HDOs, progressive farmers and SHGs workers.
During the course of the program, distribution of power tillers, water tanks and polly pipes was handed over to the progressive farmers of Namthang constituency by the chief guest. Besides, Self Help Group workers and progressive farmers under Namthang Block were also honored with cash incentives for their dedication in the field of agriculture.
Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Minister urged the farmers about linking themselves with the developmental departments to harness the benefits of various availed government programs and schemes for their upliftment. He emphasized the needs of the farming section about the market price and accentuated the needs of departmental interventions in providing platform for better farming facilities and marketing forums.
He said that vegetables produced from Namthang area during lock-down catered the demand of bazar areas, seeing it’s potential, the farmers were motivated to fill the huge market that can generate income source to uplift their livelihood and further stressed to get the most benefits out of availing loan not only for agriculture purposes but also for Fishery and Animal Husbandry.
DDM, NABARD Shri. Rupen Lamichamey spoke about various schemes such as Kishan Credit Card, and other bank subsidy loan details provided by the government to the farmers. He informed about a total of 4 Farmer Producer Organisation in South District has been in a function that deals with business activities related to the farm produce and for the benefit of the members. In addition, he also clarified the availability of loans and the benefits of availing the agricultural schemes.
The program also saw Senior Scientist KVK Shri. I.P Shivakoti, Namthang ADO Mr. Nation Rai and HDO Ms. Saroja Tamang briefing on the ongoing departmental activities, work progress and implementation of schemes in their respective fields.
With the view of adding monetary growth in the village level, Subject Matter Specialist Agri Extension Ms.Karma Paden Kaleon briefly presented the initiative taken up by her team for the value added scheme as well. In this scheme the team had taken up Perbing Khop for making potato chips and Ruchung for making Dalle paste adding the taste of Medicinal herbs like Chimphing (Nepali Hogweed), Timbur ( Sichuan Pepper) and Garlic. She further stated that this scheme would be encouraged to other villages as well.
At the onset, Minister Shri. Kharel visited the stalls on the premises of KVK which was showcased by the SHGs, progressive farmers and other agricultural entrepreneurs.
It may be mentioned here that a total of 15 participants from Namthang block showcased new farm technologies and organic products.
