Gyalshing,18th Sept.2020: KVK West Sikkim celebrated Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2020( Prime Minister’s Overreaching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) at KVK Training Hall on 17th September 2020. The National Celebration was graced by District Magistrate Shri Karma R.Bonpo as Chief Guest and Hon’ble Zilla Panchayat, Bhaluthang Shri Roshan Khatiwada as Guest of Honour. The programme also had the presence of Joint Director, Agriculture West Shri T.N Bhutia and CDPO Gyalshing Shri H.B Shanker along with ICDS Supervisors, Aganwadi workers of ICDS Centres and Farm Women of West District.
Shri Dinesh Basnett, Sr. Scientist & Head proposed welcome address and briefed about the importance of Nutrition in human life and the objectives of celebrating Poshan Abhiyan 2020.
CDPO Gyalshing highlighted on health and hygiene of pregnant women, complementary feeding and advised the ICDS workers to focus and identify the problems related with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) and Stunting problems. He also stressed on Poshtik Aahar/ Weaning food to be given prime importance and requested all the ICDS workers to create awareness among the pregnant women and mothers. He also requested all the Aganwadi workers to create nutri gardens at their respective centers or rent in uncultivated land for the establishment of nutri garden.
Hon’ble Zilla Panchayat in his address motivated and encouraged the Aganwadi workers to work in close coordination with KVK and other departments to achieve a healthy society.
Chief Guest Shri Karma R.Bonpo, DC West highlighted on the importance of nutrition, balanced diet and removal of problems like Stunting, SAM and MAM. He also stressed on the importance and role of community participation for the programme to be successful. He stated that the main priority of this year’s Abhiyan should focus on nutrition, health and education for the child to be healthy and successful with good economic output and societal contribution in the near future. Lastly, he encouraged all the ICDS Supervisors and Workers to focus on basic requirements, health & nutrition, community mobilization and work with dedication, motivation and self satisfaction for the Abhiyan to be successful in the long run.
In the technical session, SMS Horticulture Ms Sangay Palmoo Bhutia highlighted on the importance of kitchen/nutri garden, nutri- thali, biofortified crops with a small presentation. Later the programme concluded with a small demonstration on preparation of Nutri-thali with locally available seasonal food products. The program concluded with the distribution of vegetable seeds. The vote of thanks ceremony was conducted by SMS Agronomy Mr J.P Dulal.
