Gyalshing, 4th September 2020: The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Gyalshing successfully organised and conducted two days Webinar on the topic ‘Initiatives and Innovative Practices Towards Teaching Learning Process and School Development’ on 03/09/2020 and 04/09/2020.
The objective behind organising these two days webinar was to acknowledge those teachers and school heads who have been tirelessly working on and off the screen for providing effective learning among children and also the overall school development.
It was also intended to share the initiatives and innovative practices being adopted by schools of West District into the larger audience.
The Inaugural session of the Webinar had the gracious presence of Shri Indra Hang Subba, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha as a Chief Guest. The event had the presence of Additional Director, Education Department, West Sikkim, Shri K.C. Gyatso as a Chairperson for Technical Session III, Dr. Balaida R. Dakhr, Dean, Department of Extension Education, NERIE, Shillong as a Chairperson for Technical Session I, Dr. Nimrat Kaur and Ms. Aanchal Chomal, Associate Professors, Azim Premji University Bengaluru, as the Chairpersons for Technical Sessions IV and II respectively.
Also present in the programme were Joint Director, Education Department, Gangtok, Shri K. Imbaraj, Deputy Directors, Education Department from North, South and West Districts, Principals of DIET Gangtok, DIET Namchi, TTC Carmel and DIET Gyalsing, Principal Incharge of Sikkim Government College (Gyalshing), Head of the Schools, BDO Gyalshing, Faculties from SCERT and all DIETs, Teachers from across the state and Teacher Trainee representatives of DIET West.
Chief Guest Shri Indra Hang Subba, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha in his address congratulated DIET West for creating a forum for teachers and Intellectuals where constructive discussions and ideas are shared. He reminded all the members present about the National Education Policy and our preparation in accepting and implementing NEP in the near future. He also shared the programme and initiatives of the Government for the education sector in the state. He also expressed his willingness to attend such a programme in the coming days.
Additional Director, Education Department, West Sikkim, Shri K.C. Gyatso in his Opening Remark acknowledged DIET West for providing opportunities to teachers in showcasing their efforts and commitments in the field of School Education.
The Webinar had altogether twelve presentations from schools of West Sikkim which were divided into four different Technical Sessions. Each session had three Teacher Presenters and three Panel Observers.
The programme also had two keynote addresses shared by Ms. Aanchal Chomal, Associate Professor, Azim Premji University, Bengaluru on the topic ‘Role of Teachers in Ensuring Continuity of Learning in the COVID – 19 Pandemic’ and Shri Sekhar Chandra Chettri, Resource Person from SCERT Sikkim on the topic ‘National Education Policy 2020’.
The programme ended with a closing remark from Shri O.P. Ghatani, Principal DIET Gyalshing and Vote of thanks by Ms. Matrika Thapa, Lecturer DIET Gyalshing.
The entire programme was coordinated by Shri. Kuldip Sharma and Ms. Swarnalata Pradhan, Lecturers DIET Gyalshing with the extensive support of Shri Bikash Chettri, the Technical Coordinator and Ms. Babita Pradhan, Lecturer DIET Gyalshing, an integral member of the organising team.
