Gangtok, September 3 (IPR): Hon’ble Minister, Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Departments Shri Lok Nath Sharma chaired a meeting to review the status and challenges of farmers associated with Sikkim Dairy Production Private Limited (SDPPL), Dentam, at his chamber, Tashiling Secretariat, today.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Chairman Sikkim Milk Union (SMU) Shri M.J. Rai, Managing Director (SMU) Dr. A.B. Karki, Director(Cattle & Dairy) Dr. B. M. Chettri, AH&VS, Additional Registrar Cooperation Department Smt. Jabi Thapa, Board of Director (SDPPL) Shri. P. L. Dahal, Assistant Manager (SDPPL) Shri. Kamal Pradhan.
After lending a patient hearing to the grievances placed by the SDPPL, the Minister assured to look into the matter and take appropriate action at the earliest. He also said that the Department would provide support for strengthening and functioning of the dairy production centre. He also advised constituting a committee to look into the existing issues of the farmers associated with SDPPL and growth of the Cheese plant that has earned recognition, globally.
He also welcomed a suggestion to form Milk Federation for farmers of both organised and unorganised Dairy sector in Sikkim so that they can avail Centrally Sponsored Schemes and additional benefits.
During the meeting, Vice Chairman SMU Shri M.J.Rai stressed on the need for the formation of Milk Federation. He also elaborated the current scenario and challenges being faced by SDPPL.
Managing Director SMU Dr A. B. Karki highlighted the role of Sikkim Milk Union and also put forth a few suggestions for the growth of SDPPL.
Earlier, Board of Director, SDPPL Shri P. L. Dahal threw light on the history of Cheese Plant Dentam. Assistant Manager (SDPPL, Dentam) Shri. Kamal Pradhan also presented a brief report about the current challenges of the SDPPL.
The meeting began with the welcome address presented by the Director,(Cattle & Dairy), AH&VS Dr. B. M. Chettri and concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Joint Director, AH&VS, Department Dr. Thinley N. Bhutia.
