Rural Development Department bagged six National level awards

Gangtok, August 9: A National Level Award ceremony for best performing Gram, Block and Zilla Panchayat was held through Video Conference on 7th August 2020, chaired by Hon’ble Minister for Panchayati Raj and Agriculture, Government of India, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar. The State of Sikkim was represented by the Principal Secretary RDD, Shri C. S. Rao, Director Panchayati Raj Shri. Prabhakar Rai, Under Secretary, State Project Coordinator and Panchayat Development Assistant, Ranka along with the staff of Panchayati Raj Directorate.

Hon’ble Union Minister for Panchayati Raj congratulated all the Gram, Block and Zilla Panchayats of the country who were selected as awardees for the year 2020 in various categories.

Sikkim has bagged awards in the following categories:

1. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar awarded to:
a. South District Zilla Panchayat,
b. Ranka Gram Panchyat Unit, East Sikkim
c. Yangten Gram Panchayat Unit, West Sikkim.

2. Child Friendly Gram Panchayat Award to:
a. Pachey-Samsing Gram Panchayat Unit, East Sikkim,

3. Gram Panchayat Development Plan Award to:
a. Sangkhu Radu Khandu Gram Panchayat Unit, West Sikkim.

4. Nanaji Deshmukh Rastriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar to:
a. Premlakha-Subhaneydara Gram Panchayat Unit, East Sikkim.

During the conference, Hon’ble Union Minister Congratulated Ranka GPU and praised the Sabhapati and members for performing their best in their respective areas. He opined that in order to move forward for achieving Atmanirbhar Bharat, it is necessary to make our Gram Panchayats Atmanirbhar, therefore, he also suggested all work towards achieving the goal as envisaged by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.

Shri Govind Bhattarai, Panchayat Sabhapati of Ranka Gram Panchayat Unit represented the Awardee panchayats of the state in the VC and mentioned about the good practices being taken up by the Zilla and Gram Panchayat Unit for the total upliftment of the society. He mentioned about the various training programmes being organized by the GPU for the unemployed youths of the Gram Panchayat followed by success stories.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Prem Singh Tamang, Hon’ble Minister of Rural Development Department, Shri Sonam Lama, congratulated all the awardees of Zilla and Gram Panchayats of Sikkim and ensured required support for the holistic development of the State.

The Video Conference programme was also attended by the Secretary to Government of India, Panchayati Raj along with Joint Secretary, Ministry Panchayati Raj and other officials at New Delhi.
