Gyalshing, 30 July (IPR): District Collector, West, Dr. AB Karki, launched the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Vaccination Campaign today here at the auditorium hall of Girls Senior Secondary School, Kyongsha in West Sikkim.
Dr. Karki stated that the programme was started with the aim to make West Sikkim cervical cancer free district and said that the State Government and the Health Department are committed towards the prevention of cervical cancer in Sikkim. He also mentioned that the State Government has started this noble cause at the State’s cost and the vaccine will protect girl child from cervical cancer.
Further, Marathon Man of Sikkim, Mr. Amar Subba, expressed his gratitude towards the organising committee and congratulated them for the noble initiative. He urged the gathering to lead a healthy and positive life every day.
The programme was also attended by Additional Director (HRDD), CDPO (ICDS), Senior Welfare Officer, DRCHO HEALTH, Principal (GSSS, Kyongsha), AEO (HRDD), other health officials, school faculty, ASHA workers and guardians of the students.
A total of 903 girl child were vaccinated today at the programme.
