Sikkim Reports its First COVID-19 Death

Gangtok, July 26(IPR): As per the latest update received from DG-cum-Secretary, Health, Dr Pempa T. Bhutia, the State reported it’s first COVID-19 death today.
He informed that a 74 year old male, resident of Rongli, East Sikkim, passed away this morning, in the COVID-19 wing of STNM hospital.
The patient had comorbidities and was suffering from hypertension and diabetes, he informed. He was shifted to STNM last night at around 8 pm after he had complained of some ailment and was earlier tested positive for Covid-19. As his condition continued to worsen, he was later shifted to ICU. The patient succumbed to COVID-19 this morning at around 8:30.
The DG-cum-Secretary further informed that the funeral will be performed by Gangtok Municipal Corporation as per the standard operating procedure of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
