Gangtok, July 15: The Video Conference of Minister of State (I/c) for Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India Shri Kiren Rijiju with Ministers and Secretaries of 18 States and Union Territories including Sikkim was held today. Hon’ble Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Shri K. N. Lepcha, Secretary Shri Kuber Bhandari and Senior Officers of the State attended the conference.
Hon’ble Minister Shri K. N. Lepcha highlighted the achievements of the sporting activities of 2019-20 and the activities taken during the Covid-19 pandemic. The major highlights were Online North East Chess Competition, Online Yoga Session, 15 days online Zumba training starting 26th June 2020 duly commemorating International Anti Drug and Illicit Trafficking Day, Blood donation camp on Olympic Day and contributions of NSS and NYK Volunteers to combat Covid-19 pandemic.
Hon’ble Minister also dwelt on the future plans to carry sporting activities during pandemic especially online and on field programmes mainly for non-contact sports duly issuing SOPs.
Hon’ble Minister highlighted on the need of sports infrastructures for the State and sought the intervention of the Central Minister for approval of projects submitted by the State.
Hon’ble Union Minister for State Shri Kiren Rijiju appreciated the activities taken by the State even in the pandemic and assured full cooperation. The video conference was held on 14th and 15th July 2020.
