The Tourism & Civil Aviation Department organised a plantation drive at Pakyong Airport


Gangtok, July 3: The Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim organised a plantation cum Swachatta Drive at Pakyong Airport, Pakyong on 2nd July.
The drive was led by the Hon’ble Minister, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Shri. B.S. Panth and was attended by the Hon’ble Area MLA, Rhenock Constituency Shri. Bishnu Khatiwara. Also present during the plantation drive was the Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism , Dr. K. Jayakumar and other officers of the Department along with the Airport Director, Shri. Ramatanu Shah and other officials from Airport Authority Of India.
Around 300 saplings of different varieties provided by the Forest Department were planted during the plantation drive with a view to increase the green cover of the State.
The plantation drive was organised to mark the World Environment Day 2020 as the earlier proposed plantation drive had to be deferred due to COVID – 19 restrictions.
The plantation drive was followed by a meeting with the Airport Director, Pakyong Airport where various issues relating to the current status of the Airport was discussed. The Hon’ble Minister took note of the various issues put forth and appropriate suggestions were given to solve the current issues at the earliest.
