Gangtok, June 17: (IPR) As per COVID-19 Health Bulletin issued by DG-cum-Secretary Health, Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia today, two new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the State.
This includes one 18-year-old female who had returned to the State from New Delhi on 7th June. She was put up at a paid facility quarantine in Pelling West Sikkim, where she tested positive on 16th June. She was immediately shifted to Isolation Ward, Ayush Hospital Geyzing.
The other person who tested positive for COVID-19 is a 52-year-old male from Tathangchen, Gangtok. He had returned from Kolkata on 14th June, and was subsequently admitted to STNM Hospital with flu-like symptoms on 15th June. His test results came positive on 16th June.
The DG-cum-Secretary also informed about the death of a 27-year-old male on the night of 16th June. He had returned to Sikkim from New Delhi on 5th June and had been placed at a paid facility quarantine centre in the capital. He started developing flu-like symptoms and was tested after completion of five days in quarantine. His TrueNat test result of 12th June came negative. After the flu symptoms persisted, his sample was tested in the VRD Laboratory (RTPCR) on 13thJune, which was reported negative. Thereafter, his sample was again tested (RTPCR) on 15th June. Again, his test results came negative. He was then tested for Tuberculosis, the result of which came positive. He was thus prescribed medication for TB and was discharged from the facility quarantine to enable him to continue with his medication at home along with a healthy diet. Unfortunately, he developed some complications on the night of 16th June and had to be rushed to CRH, Manipal, but by the time they reached the hospital, he was dead. Dr. Bhutia further informed that his sample was again tested (RTPCR) for final confirmation. The result of this test also came negative.
Dr. Bhutia in his bulletin informed that at present, there are 52 patients admitted in the Isolation Ward of COVID-19 Hospital (STNM), 3 patients in the Triage facility, and 14 patients in Isolation Ward of Ayush Hospital, Geyzing. In total, 69 patients are admitted and undergoing treatment.
As per the Health Bulletin, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the State stands at 70, of which 66 are active cases and 4 are recovered and discharged.
