District Collector, West Tours Extreme West for Public’s Benefit

Gyalshing, 18 July (IPR): District Collector, West Sikkim, Dr. A.B. Karki, visited various parts of West district under Daramdin Constituency accompanied by MLA (Daramdin), Shri D.N. Sherpa, officials of line departments and Panchayats of various Gram Panchayat Units the Constituency. The two-daylong visit of the DC started from 16th July, 2018 which successfully concluded on 18th July.

The DC, West, Dr. Karki, visited Daramdin, Sombaria, Okhrey, Hillay, Ribdi, Bariakhop and Dodok while also interacting with the concerned area officials and Panchayat members. During his visit, he was accompanied by the MLA (Daramdin). The visit unearthed various problems of the public and the officials alike. Issues of delay in CMRHM houses of public, electricity issues relating to the probability of the loss of life in certain areas, registration of governmental lands and proper utilization of those lands for other beneficial purposes, issues of speedy Certificate of Identification (COI) and providing them to the public at their doorsteps were seen as major issues which needed immediate attention and solution.

While interacting with the Panchayats of Lower and Upper Fambong, Lunchok, Salangdang, Okhrey and Ribdi GPUs, he explained them their role as public’s voice and representatives. He mentioned that the sole aim of the Panchayats should be to work for the public’s welfare like Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Pawan Chamling does towards Sikkim. He gave various ideas of ‘Low-Cost; No-Cost’ initiatives which the Panchayats could follow in their areas.

Further, he advised the Panchayats to come out with award winning initiatives for their respective GPUs.

The DC also visited and inspected the various ongoing projects under the Daramdin Constituency like the Ethnic Center at Bariakhop for which the HCM had laid the foundation stone on 28th February, 2018. He interacted with the public who have been asked to relocate due to the project at their earliest disposal. He also advised the Panchayat member that the process has to been done swiftly and in an orderly manner.

The DC has expressed his desire to visit more GPUs of West district where similar inspection and interactions will be done for public’s easement. Further, he plans to visit more remote areas of West district every week for easy administration to the public.
