Gangtok, April 21: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Minister, RDD, Shri Sonam Lama in the conference hall of Rural Development Department today.
The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary and the senior officers of the Department.
The Principal Secretary apprised the house in detail regarding the distribution of relief materials in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. He further stated that social distancing was maintained by the public while receiving relief. The Hon’ble Minister appreciated the teamwork of the Department in the swift distribution of relief materials in the rural areas.
The Hon’ble Minister was of the view that the C.C. footpaths being constructed under MGNREGA should be eco friendly with minimal use of cement. He instructed to take note of this in the future implementation of the scheme. PD/MGNREGA apprised the house about the instructions received from the Ministry of Rural Development to take up irrigation and water conservation works with a minimum number of workers to maintain social distancing. She further informed that works for which materials have already been received at the construction site before lockdown will be utilised on priority to ensure that cement does not get spoilt. Thereafter, the Principal Secretary informed the MGNREGA cell to explore the possibility of using locally available materials as desired by the Hon’ble Chief Minister in co-ordination meeting held earlier today for generating further man-days for the needy.
In his concluding remarks, the Hon’ble Minister appealed to the officers to carry on the work of public good while taking necessary precautions to contain the spread of COVID-19.
