Training for Novice Lawyers and Final Year Law Students organised by Sikkim SLSA

Gangtok, 10 June (IPR): Two-daylong short term training programme for novice lawyers and final year Law students organised by Sikkim State Legal Service Authority (SLSA) concluded at the auditorium of High Court of Sikkim today.

The concluding day of the short term training had the participation from 12 novice lawyers and 40 final year Law students from Sikkim University, Government Law College, Burtuk and ICFAI University.

The second day of the training programme included interactive session with resource persons namely Panel Advocates of Sikkim SLSA, Mr. S.S. Hamal and Mr. Zangpo Sherpa. The session was presided by former Chief Justice, High Court of Sikkim, Justice Pius C. Kuriakose.

In first session, resource person, Mr. Hamal underlined on the subjects like examination of witnesses, cross examination and re examination, etc.

Likewise, in the second session of the training, resource person Mr. Sherpa conducted a brief session on subjects like securing high rating in the minds of judges and fellow members of the legal fraternity and officers and staff of court were discussed at length. He urged the participants to keep updating themselves everyday as new development takes place in this fast paced world related to law and rules.

An academic quiz on subjects of everyday application was conducted by the resource persons with Justice Kuriakose as quiz master and Registrar, High Court of Sikkim, Mr. K.W. Bhutia, as the assistant quiz master. Questions on various topics like code of civil procedure, Indian evidence act, code of criminal procedure, Indian Penal Code, Transfer of Property Act, Constitution of India and other statues and well known legal maxims were put forth before the participants.

The students expressed their gratitude to Sikkim SLSA for giving them an opportunity to attend the training programme.

The two-daylong short term training concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of quiz competition participants while the vote of thanks was proposed by Deputy Secretary, Sikkim SLSA, Mr. Bikash Sharma.
