Namli/ Ranipool, April 18: (IPR) In a wake of COVID-19 crisis, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture & Horticulture Shri Lok Nath Sharma visited private floriculture farmlands at Radang busty under Namli GPU, East Sikkim, today.
Minister Sharma interacted with the affected local florists and asked about the degree of difficulties they have been facing due to the current market crisis of flower business during the lockdown period.
Minister Sharma expressed the deep concern of the state government towards private flower growers and informed that the government is making an assessment of losses of flowers and planning to compensate the marginal farmers, possibly.
One of the flower growers Shri Bishnu Rai lamented over the loss of flowers at the time of harvesting and said that he disposed varieties of flowers at the compost pit.
Earlier he also visited a Model Floriculture Centre at Namli, this afternoon. After taking a round of the farm, spread over 4.5 hectares of the land surface, Minister Sharma directed to revive the model farm with the immediate course of action. He also instructed the Concerned Incharge Dy. Director Shri Biju Pariyar for proper maintenance & cleanliness of the complex and appropriate arrangements of flower inputs in the store. Further, he asked to submit requirements of the manpower for notable changes in the farmland.
