Gangtok 3rd March 2020: (IPR) A team from IRCON INTERNATIONAL LTD, led by the General Manager, (Civil, Siliguri region), Shri T. T. Bhutia, accompanied by CGM, RP, IRCON, Shri Surender Singh from Delhi, CGM Siliguri IRCON, Shri N. S. Negi, and JGM IRCON, Shri Sajjan Singh, alongwith executive members from State Level Railway Contractor Welfare Association of Sikkim, called on the Chief Minister Shri P. S. Tamang at Tashiling Secretariat today and presented the detailed plan of ongoing Rangpo – Siliguri raiway construction project. The progress and difficulties faced during the inception was also highlighted by Shri T. T. Bhutia.
During the meeting, it was revealed that despite of frequent natural calamities and unpredictable disasters, the company is committed to execute the work smoothly with a goal of completing the railway line from Siliguri to Rangpo in the year 2023. It was informed that 86% (that is, 38 km out of 45 km) will be in tunnel works and only 7 km will be in open space. Also that five stations have been specified by the Railway authority, namely Sevoke, Riyang, Teesta Bazar, Malli and Rangpo. The Chief Minister informed that there is also a proposal for extension of this railway line up to Gangtok and onward to Nathula in near future.
The Chief Minister also expressed his readiness to render every necessary support to the construction committee and advised the members of the Association to maintain coordination with the entire railway construction team, achieving positive outcome for the state from the infrastructure developmental works.
