Soreng, 29th January, 2020 (IPR): The Program on the ‘Launching of Soreng Rurban Cluster under the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rurban Mission’ was held at Conference Hall, SDM Office at Soreng, West Sikkim.
The Program was graced by Shri. Sonam Lama, Hon’ble Minister, Rural Development Department as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Shri. Aditya Golay, Hon’ble Area MLA (Soreng-Chakung); Shri. C. P. Sharma, Honble Press Advisor to HCM; Shri. C. S. Rao, Principal Secretary, RDD; Smt. Ganga Pradhan,Secretary, Skill Develoment; Smt. Sarika Pradhan, Additional Secretary, RDD; Shri. Karma R. Bonpo, DC West; Shri. Bishal Mukhia, Director (Capacity Building); Shri. Gayas Pega, ADC (Dev., Soreng) and HOD’S from different Department.
Addressing the gathering the Chief Guest Shri. Sonam Lama highlighted the importance of the program that large parts of the Rural areas in the country are not stand alone settlement but part of a cluster of settlements, which are relatively proximate to each other. These Clusters typically illustrate the capability for the growth, have economic potentials and derive locational and competitive advantage hence considering these factors the Government of India has proposed the ‘Shyama Mukherjee Rurban Mission’. He further added that every individual should cooperate to make the plan a successful one and reap the benefits of the RURBAN project to the fullest so as to make the areas under the project to create avenues for development and economic freedom. He also congratulated the public of Soreng for having being selected under Rurban mission and wished them the best of what the project will make of them.
Shri. Aditya Golay MLA (Soreng) in his briefing encouraged all the Officers and the public to work together to make the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rurban Mission (SPMRM) a success. He also informed about the vision of SPMRM being the “Development of a cluster of villages that preserve and nurture the essence of rural community life with focus on equity and inclusiveness without compromising with the facilities perceived to be essentially urban in nature, thus creating a cluster of “Rurban Villages”.
Smt. Sarika Pradhan mentioned that Soreng Cluster was selected in phase III from Sikkim based upon the criteria laid down by the Ministry.
The mission was initially launched on 16th sept 2015 by the Ministry of the Rural Development, Govt. of India with the aim to develop a cluster of villages that preserve and nurtures the essence of the rural community life with focus on equity and inclusiveness without compromising with facilities perceived to be essentially urban in nature, thus creating a Cluster of Rurban villages.
During the Program the ‘Soreng Rurban Cluster and Soreng Integrated Cluster Action Plan (ICAP) along with rhe power presentation of Soreng ICAP was also shown and discussed.
