With this a total of 150 students of West Sikkim have been set on exposure and learning tour under the Explore and Learn Initiative of the West District Administration. The entire initiative of the District Administration is being funded by REC Foundation through its CSR initiative.
The objective of the 11 days exposure program is to further instill upon young minds the ability to think big and dream bigger dreams, share with the students of various schools across Odhisa and Gujarat, the cultural aspects of Sikkim, learn about Odhisa and Gujarat and its culture and heritage and meaningfully engage with students of various schools across the state, thereby fostering a spirit of togetherness and bonding. The students also would engage and interact with local communities during the exposure program and also participate in the beach cleanliness campaign facilitated by the local schools and communities during their trip. The students will also be visiting reputed institute like National Institute of Design, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, and Space Application Centre Ahmedabad.
“The idea of student exposure program is to further encourage them to move beyond their comfort zones and to be competitive in the world outside. Since all the students are academically meritorious, we believe that some spark of learning would enhance their capabilities to push themselves forward. Also the thrust of the state Government, the Chief Minister and the Education Minister towards the cause of education has further facilitated us to work towards programs like these,” says Karma R. Bonpo, District Collector, West Sikkim who is the brain behind the student exposure initiative.
Speaking about the student exposure program, Dika Maya Sharma, a student of class VIII of Najoor Berfok Junior High School travelling to Odhisa says, “The trip has been extremely beneficial for me. I have become smarter over the days of the travel, learnt how to become more participative and work as a team. It has also helped me enhance my own confidence and the trip has helped me broaden my horizon.
Another student, Sunil Tamang, a student of class VIII of Sigeng Junior High School says, “The best part of the exposure program has been my ability to be independent and strong enough to take care of myself. I have learnt so much about discipline, time management, enhanced my reading abilities and also importantly money management. I am sure that in the days to come I shall learn more and come back with zeal to perform better in the years ahead.”
