Gyalshing, 30th December, 2019 (IPR): The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri. P. S. Tamang (Golay) attended the auspicious Gurung Festival Tamu Lochar at the Pelling, West Sikkim. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Shri. Indra Hang Subba, MP (Lok Sabha); Shri. Sangay Lepcha, Deputy Speaker, SLA; Shri. M. N. Sherpa, Minister, Energy and Power; Shri. Bhim Hang Subba, Minister PHE, Shri. P. T. Luksom, Former Deputy Chief Minister, Shri. D. B. Gurung, Chairman SBS, Shri. . Bhutia, Secretary Toursim, Shri. K. L. Lepcha, ADC West, Shri. Nakul Pradhan, ASP West, Officials and other Dignitaries.
The HCM in his address to the gathering extended his best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Tamu Lochar a festival of the Gurung Community where he expressed his gratitude and joy to be present at the event. He mentioned that December the last month of the years is a month full of festivals of different communities of Sikkim hence he extended his heartfelt congratulations to all.
In his address, he stressed that the unity of community is very important and hence importance should be given on the preservation of culture and languages with the cooperation of all involved.
He informed that the ‘Gurung Bhawan’ will be made after careful consideration with full support of the Government. He also informed that the ‘Tribal Status’ for the Gurung Community along with other similar communities of Sikkim has been looked into and worked upon by the State Government. The HCM also stressed on the inclusion Gurung Language to be introduced in the schools based upon the community census in areas of Sikkim and that Gurung Language teachers would also be recruited in future so that future generations can learn their native language.
He also informed that the Government is keen to develop tourism in West Sikkim. Similarly, the Rambang Checkpost to be opened soon for making tourism corridor in West Sikkim to cater tourists needs and develop West Sikkim in the area of tourism.
During the program the felicitations of various personalities including Shri. B. B. Gurung, Former Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri. Mohan Gurung, Shri. Sarad Kumar Gurung, Smt. Sneha Lata Gurung, Shri. Narendra Bikram Gurung, Shri. Navin Gurung. Similarly, Certificate of Inspirations to Young talents were also given to namely Ms. Roshnila Gurung, Shri. Joy Gurung, Smt. Devika Gurung, Ms. Pranisha Gurung.
The Pelling Tourism Development Association also felicitated Shri. N. K. Karki, Principal Pelling SSS, Shri. Topzor Bhutia and Shri. Nirmal Rai.
