Workshop on formation of child parliament organized by District Child Protection Unit North

Mangan December 10 (IPR): A one day workshop on formation of child parliament was organized today by District Child Protection Unit North for Chairpersons of Block & Village level Child Protection Committees of North District.

The purpose of the workshop was to enable the Committees to facilitate the formation of Child Parliaments for children of their community.

The Sr,SP North, Sonam Gyatso Bhutia Who attended the programme as the chief guest also met all the Committee Chairpersons and asked them to work towards protection of the children and to be vigilant as most of the times the perpetrator is someone known and trusted in the community/by the family.

The DCPO North,Wendy lepcha, highlighted on the child protection mechanism existent in the State under Child Protection Scheme of Social Justice &Welfare department. She also requested all the committee Chairpersons to help facilitate the formation of Child Parliament In each GPU as children need to be empowered by giving them a forum to voice their issues.

The Resource Person, Mr Tej Kr. Thapa, Zonal Coordinator for Child Parliament, shared the process of forming the parliament, roles of each member of the Parliament, role of Village & Block level Child Protection Committees in assisting the children in forming the Parliament.

The program ended with a Pledge by the Committees to be the channel for children of their community to attain a forum where they would be able to raise their concerns, work for change and be involved in achieving the Sustainable development Goals.
