A Special Handloom Expo 2019-20 organised by DHH Gangtok

Namchi 7th December (IPR): The 15 days long Special Handloom Event 2019-20 organised by Sikkim Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited an apex body under Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom (DHH) Zero Point Gangtok was inaugurated by ASP South Shri Jayapandiyan at Central Park today. The event sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India is being held from 7th to 21st December 2019.
The inaugural function was attended by Zilla Adhyaksha (South) Smt. Tshering Dem Bhutia, Councillors of Namchi Municipal Council, Joint Director (M/S) DHH Shri. K. S.Bhutia, Deputy Director Marketing DHH Shri T. D. Gyamtso, officials along with staff and trainees of Namchi Branch Centre DHH and local gentry.
The aim of organising this expo is to provide a platform for weavers, sellers and buyers to converge and create awareness on handloom and handicrafts sector as an employment and income generating industry.
During the programme, the chief guest accompanied by other guests visited the stalls and interacted with the participants and expressed his delight over an array of handloom and handicrafts products being displayed for exhibition cum sale from different parts of the country.
It maybe mentioned here that this Special Handloom Expo is a PAN India programme wherein a total of 30 stalls have been put up by various weavers and Self Help Groups from six different states namely, Assam, Nagaland, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and host state Sikkim.
