Mangan, November 8 (IPR): In order to compliance of the guidelines and its implementation of the Solid Liquid Waste Management Rules, 2016, the District Magistrate, North Shri T T Kaleon called a District Level Monitoring Committee Meeting in his chamber today.
The meeting was attended by Sr. SP/ North, Sr. Scientific Officers, SPCB, Gangtok, ADC(Dev)RMDD, Mangan and Chungthang, ASP, North, SDM, Mangan, Kabi, Dzongu and Chungthang, BDO, Mangan, Kabi, Passingdang and Chungthang, DE, PHE, Penal Advocate, CMO/DHM, DE/B&HD, NYK, District coordinator/N, MEO/MNP, JS/Education and DFO(T).
It has been learned that Ministry of Forest and climate change, Government of India has notified Solid Liquid Waste Management Rules, 2016. The said rules and guidelines are available at www.cpcb.nic.in
Accordingly state government has also constituted and notified the state level and District level committee headed by Justice A P Subba, former judge of High Court of Sikkim at State level and District Magistrate at District Level. Power and responsibility of committee as well as department and other stakeholders have been specified in the rules.
During the meeting DC Shri Kaleon insisted that there must be a reliable landfill site where waste could be dumped systematically. Further he instructed all the GPUs of the district to frame a by- laws and prepare an action plan accordingly and submit the same to the district level monitoring committee by November 30.
Further, he insisted the waste segregation at source and to ensure door to door collection of segregated waste and its transportation by the RRC vehicle to processing of disposal area.
Shri Kaleon also suggested that there should be construction of the RRC as per an exigency, in this context asked the BDOs to play pro-active role in their respective area.
He also seek the cooperation from police department on disseminating and generating awareness on solid liquid waste management among general public. Similarly, NYK Mangan was also asked to generate awareness on the said subject.
