West District Administration launches ambitious innovative learning program for Mathematics in Government Schools designed by IIT-IIM Graduate

Gyalshing, 20th September(IPR): The West District Administration organized a four day long training to improve the learning outcomes in Mathematics for primary schools. The training was provided bya Social Enterprise based in Hyderabad city. The program was inaugurated by District Collector, West Shri Karma R Bonpo in presence of Additional Director, Education Department, West Smt Eden Bhutia and officials of Education Department, West Sikkim.
The training was attended by all the primary mathematics teachers of 218 schools in the District. The training was organized in auditorium of Government Girls Senior Secondary Schools, Kyongsa and Government Senior Secondary School, Soreng.
As per the NITI AYOG survey and the internal survey by the Education Department, the learning outcome in Mathematics is currently poor. In order to improve the learning outcomes in Government Schools across the district, the District Administration has launched this ambitious project to train all the teachers in the district on new methods of pedagogy so as to make the classes more interactive and fun. The first step towards quality education lies in having quality teachers and to have quality teachers, the capacity of the teachers have to be considerably enhanced.
In order to help in the journey towards better learning outcomes in schools children, the West District Administration has tied up with Butterfly Fields a social Enterprise founded by IIT Mumbai (Indian Institute of Technology) and -IIM Amhedabad( Indian Institute of Management)Graduate Shri Sharat Chandra and based in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.
Butterfly Edufields offers innovative ‘hands-on-learning’ programs and Do It Yourself kits, tailored to the School Science and Math curriculum for grades 1 to 10, which have demonstrated improvement of 30% in student scores. These kits are being used in Private as well as Govt Schools. Late Dr. APJ Kalam and Prof Yashpal (former UGC Chairperson) have immensely appreciated these products and Butterfly Fields is the winner of the Global Innovation Case Study Award given by All India Management Association. Butterfly fields has been researching & developing teaching aids for facilitating the school teachers since 10 years and these kits have been in use in 1000+ Private Schools spread across 17 states

The training was well received by the primary teachers of the schools who have shown keen interest in using above Do it Yourself kits in the Government schools for teaching math in the primary sections. The West District Administration will be supplying the above kits to all the schools in the district in order to improve the math score of Government schools.
