Secretary, MOEFCC, GoI calls on HCM

Gangtok, 16 Sept (IPR): Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Government of India, Shri C.K. Mishra, called on Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) at Tashiling Secretariat.

Present on the occasion were Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim, Shri A.K. Shrivastava, Deputy Director General, MOEF&CC Regional Office, Shillong, Shri S.K. Agarwal, Principal Secretary cum PCCF, Government of Sikkim, Shri M.L. Shrivastava, and other senior officers of the Forest & Environment Department, Government of Sikkim.

A short meeting was also held in the office of the HCM where various issues pertaining to Forest & Environment Department which were already discussed in the meeting of the Secretary with Forest officials in the Forest Secretariat were apprised to the HCM.

These points included:

  1. Issue of proposed diversion of Forest Land for rehabilitating the Taungyadars staying in reserve forests of Sikkim since many decades
  2. Issue of diversion of Forest land for establishing burial/cremation in various districts of the State
  3. HCM mentioned about funding of the Khichudumra Bio Park in South SIKKIM, to the Secretary MoEF&CC, to which the Secretary MoEF&CC agreed.

The HCM also mentioned regarding the issue of Man-Animal conflict and people leaving their land in several situations whereby he cited the example of West Sikkim.

The Principal Secretary, Forest mentioned that a project proposal for Rs 20 crores, was prepared and sent to the Ministry for funding.

The Secretary, MoEF&CC mentioned that he has noted the proposal and will be considered. He also assured that all pending proposals of the state Government will be taken up expeditiously.
