CS addresses India- ICIMOD Partners’ Day event

Gangtok, 14 Sept (IPR): Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim, Mr. A.K. Shrivastava, addressing on the occasion of India-ICIMOD Partners’ Day at Chintan Bhawan today, said that the partner’s day event being held in Sikkim is significant for the country as India is the founding member of ICIMOD. He stated that Sikkim is the perfect host for the partner’s day and the upcoming Board of Governor’s meeting as it is a biodiversity hotspot and a pioneer in environmental initiatives.

He stressed that environmental concerns affect both the developed and the developing countries and thus everybody should be equal signatories to environmental pacts. He also stressed on the need to conserve key resources like food, water and electricity.

The CS also highlighted some of the initiatives of the Government of Sikkim such as Dhara Vikas Programme, and ecotourism practices. He added that all development work should follow environmental norms and should be sustainable. He called for the need to learn from each other’s experiences and carry out documentation of success stories in the process.
