Gangtok, 28 Aug (IPR): On the second day of the meeting with Rural Management & Development Department at the conference hall of Tashiling Secretariat today, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) stressed on allotting maximum opportunities to the Self Help Groups (SHG) while empowering them for their livelihood and make them a sustainable force. The SHGs, in return, should assure the government by exhibiting their delegacy and dedication towards their duty.
The HCM also expressed his concern regarding continuation of such projects that are livelihood-oriented for the needy people of the State. He also expressed his concern about the school uniforms that are being supplied to the students which he felt was not meeting the required standard. Therefore, he asked if the SHGs can monitor or even stitch the school uniforms which are up to the standard, which in turn would not only give employment to the people but also assure good quality uniforms to our students and also asked the concerned department to look into the matter earnestly.
Talking about the policy of the government on giving first preference to the locals where getting employment in the pharma companies are concerned, the HCM stated that these numerous pharma companies must be having numerous posts lying vacant where our unemployed youths could be absorbed. He directed the concerned department to collect information and correct data on how many technical and non technical staffs are actually needed in these pharma companies of Sikkim.
Minister of RMDD, Shri Sonam Lama, directed the officials to expedite the ongoing construction works. Further, expressing his concern over the pending works, the Minister directed the officials to examine the reason for setback and look for alternative and permanent solutions.
Secretary to the HCM, Shri S.D. Dhakal, mentioned that Rs. 50 crore under Mission Organic Value Chain Development Project for North Eastern Region (MOVCD) fund, meant for farmers, is not utilized by the department which can be given to the SHGs, thereby, facilitating and upgrading them towards their collective prosperity across the State. Besides giving some tips on various livelihood oriented projects, he also highlighted the significance of modern poultry farming which is profitable and hygienic as well.
Rural Development Commissioner, Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, highlighted on North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP), National Rural livelihood Mission (NRLM), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) and various aspects of rural housing.
