Kala Utsav ’18 competition held in the capital, winners to represent State in New Delhi

Gangtok, 15 Nov (IPR): State level competition “Kala Utsav 2018” was held at the mini auditorium of Manan Kendra with much exuberance and enthusiasm today. Organised by Human Resource Development Department under the aegis of Samagra Shiksha, the State level competition was screened by eminent artists such as Smt Bimla Pradhan, Shri Suman Karki, Shri Lhakpa Lepcha and Shri Raju Sharma as notable jury members.

Graced by Vice Chancellor Sikkim State University, Shri G.K. Niroula (Chhetry), as chief guest, the event also had the presence of Directors, District Joint Directors and other officials and staff of the Samagra Shiksha, HRDD.

The chief guest during his address appreciated the efforts of the participating students and accompanying teachers in bringing together art forms and cultural programmes. Emphasizing on the importance of art and culture in a student’s life, he urged the students to overcome all challenges and shine with their performances at the national level.

Deputy Director (SS), Smt Kabita Moktan, highlighted a brief overview and objective on Kala Utsav. While addressing the function, she focused on the rules and regulations of Kala Utsav competion for the participating students. Students’ participation is a great contribution for the State, she added. She also highlighted the selection process in the National level competition.

Master Suraj Subba of Kalzang Gyatso Senior Secondary School, Kabi, North and Miss Rinchen Palkit Bhutia of Namthang SSS bagged the 1st position in the painting competition while Master Aditya Subba of Singtam SSS and Miss Nisha Rai of Telling SSS bagged the 1st position in solo dance competition.

Likewise, Master Bir Man Tamang of Namchi SSS, South and Miss Barsha Thapa of Namchi Govt. SSS, South bagged the 1st position in instrumental music competition. Master Baichung Bhutia of Hee Gyathang SSS, North and Miss Babita Thapa of Singtam SSS, East bagged the 1st position in vocal music category.

These eight best solo performances in each domain of arts selected out of State level competition will represent the State for National level competition slated to be held at New Delhi in December 2018.

The winners and participants were handed over the certificates and prizes.

It may be mentioned here, Kala Utsav is an initiative of the Ministry Of Human Resource Department (MHRD), Government of India to highlight and promote arts in educational practices by fostering and showcasing the artistic talents of school students in the country. Kala Utsav was started in 2015 and is now being regularly organized every year as a celebration of art forms in the school system.

The event gives students the opportunity to understand and celebrate cultural diversity at school, districts, State and National levels. The Ministry has from this year initiated the concept of pairing of States to promote national integration and create awareness about the culture and traditions.
